The furnace men are here and have been since 8:30. I don't know what they're doing, exactly. Apparently moving a boiler from one side of the cellar to the other takes a while.

(Yeah, I am a little impatient.)

I have just got off the phone with West Hartford's Department of Social Services, Housing Division. Seems that Weatherization is claiming that they can't replace the furnace until a leak in the basement is eliminated. Weatherization is saying that it is a sewage leak. I say that it is a leak from a water main with a missing lid, not a sewage leak; ( Read more... )

The Weatherization people just called. They are sending someone out in an hour to give them yet another estimate on replacement of furnace and how long it will take, etc. (Why this has to be done again, I don't know, but it's going to be done again.)

The people from Weatherization came by today--they just left, in fact--and have decided that, in addition to a new furnace (which got a third OH MY GOD THIS THING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NOW), I also need a new refrigerator (the one I have is forty years old), a new front door, a storm door for the back door, and, just possibly, some kind of repair ( Read more... )

Well, we still do not have a working furnace. I do not anticipate the new boiler arriving today, as a) the woman who is my case worker apparently doesn't know who I am and b) I got hold of her once today and left my number, and she said she'd call me right back.
